Yes, yes, you have heard those stories of people passionate about something, who set their mind to it, and magically -- seeming overnight -- they turn their passion into success. This is not that story!
This is a story of passion; yes! Yet, it is also a story of perseverance, frustration, success, and meeting fellow chocoholics along the way.
The Café Chocolat story started in July of 2015. I decided to stop hiding behind my desk, managing some great chocolate brands (Lindt, Cacao Barry, Carma ..etc.), and turn my passion for amazing chocolate into a journey of discovery and sharing. When you work on big brands, you spend so much time focusing on the consumers that you slowly lose touch with the product itself. Why is the product as good as it is? What goes into making it? How is it farmed? What is the crop like this year? ...I know you can't blame the marketing person for not focusing on those details -- there's so much to his/her plate -- however, it is precisely this disconnect with the product that drove me to clean my slate. I decided that sharing a great chocolate story is not about finding the right target consumer, or advertising in the right magazine, but it is about focusing on the product itself. Reaching out to some of the best small-batch manufacturers in the world. Discovering what they are working on, and how they are sustaining the plant and farming communities that make these great products.
